A comment came up in a book I’m reading stating that General Electric was the world’s largest company. That sparked my interest in who really is the world’s biggest company….
Turning to Wikipedia – I discovered that ExxonMobil Corp. is actually the world’s largest company with a 2006 revenue of $377.640 billion. General Electric actually falls in at number 12 with $149.7 billon.
Now that that question was solved – another one popped into my head: What is the world’s OLDEST company?
To spark some comments, I am going to leave this one unanswered and have a little competition.
One guideline – the company name or brand must remain since inception (unless you can prove that while the company name changed, the company in fact stayed the sam).
The competition can have winners in the following areas:
- Country of origin
- Industry of company
- The year in which the company started.
Let’s have some fun.
Does it count if I just looked it up on Wikipedia (which is no doubt where you got it to begin with….)?
Continuously operating for over 1400 years – wow!
NO!!! Post your first impressions BEFORE you look it up.
country
okay, I’m thinking out loud in cyber space….but I would think that the oldest company would be a banking cooporation that has its origin in Europe most probably England.
oldest company
I know it is no longer in existance, but there was a company that actually was pretty big and had lots of exports, named “Ebla Beer”. From the city of Ebla near the city or Ur. Back probably somewhere between Noah and Abram.
Dude – Where did you pull that one from??
Well, Joy and I passed a semi the other day that said Noah’s Ark – Reliable transportation since 3000 BC!
rotfl!!!
